Bangor on Dee Salmon Anglers Ltd. will be extremely grateful should you agree to take part in work parties to help maintain our fisheries. Before you do so, we ask that you read the following to ensure that you understand what is expected of you to ensure the safety of yourself and other work party participants.
Work Party Supervisor
In accordance with our Health and Safety Policy, a Work Party Supervisor appointed by the River Manager will have carried out a risk assessment prior to commencement of the work.
He or she will brief all participants on the objectives for the day, what risk mitigation measures will be in place and will assign specific duties to individuals, taking due account of experience and fitness.
Volunteers
All volunteers on BODSA work parties must comply with the safety measures specified by the Work Party Supervisor but are ultimately responsible for their own health and safety.
Teamwork is invaluable and you will be working as part of a team. Please do not be afraid to ask for assistance.
Under no circumstances must you enter the water unless previously agreed with the Work Party Supervisor.
When using any club machinery or equipment you must be competent and able to do so in a manner that does not risk the safety of yourself or others. It is your responsibility to declare your competence either voluntarily or if asked by the Work Party Supervisor.
No use of chainsaws or other licensed equipment is permitted, unless you can provide proof of your certification to the Work Party Supervisor.
Strimmers will be available to use at your own risk. Safety visors will be available on the day. Hearing protection is not supplied and is your responsibility. Please note that our strimmers are commercial brush cutters and are physically demanding to operate. If you are in any doubt about your ability to operate them safely, ask the Work Party Supervisor for an alternative task.
If you notice any defects/damaged equipment/machinery whilst in use, cease operating that machinery and inform the Work Party Supervisor immediately.
Special precaution must be taken when dealing with Giant Hogweed and other invasive or potentially dangerous flora. Avoid all contact as much as possible. If in doubt, please ask for guidance.
The Work Party Supervisor will have a first aid kit available. You must immediately report any injuries other than minor stings, cuts and abrasions to the Work Party Supervisor, who will record the details on an accident form to be signed by both of you.
